Titera's Tidbit: Narcissus
The yellow jonquil was a favorite flower of the people of the ancient Mediterranean and Central Asia. Beloved for its beauty, it gave rise to the Greek myth of a beautiful vain youth and the psychological term "narcissism". The word derives from the Aramaic narkis, meaning simply "yellow flower", and spread in many directions, appearing in Greek as narkissos, in Persian as nargiz, and in Chinese as nai ki.
