Titera's Tidbit: Love
As a term meaning "none" in tennis, "love" probably derives from the French l'oeuf, "the egg", a metaphorical way of saying "zero". Some sources suggest that the term comes from the English adage "for the love of the game", a way of consoling oneself when scoreless, but the first derivation is the likelier one.
