Titera's Tidbit: Hip-Hop
An offshoot of funk and Jamaican dub music containing elements of rap but not the same as rap itself , "hip-hop" may take its name from a 1980 song by the new wave band Blondie: "And you 'hip hop' / And you don't stop." Alternatively, it may just be the approving word "hip" with an off-rhyming repetition.
