"Yuppie" is a well-documented word, first attested in 1983, that comes from the language of sociology and the cencus taker. On the census form, the category "young urban professional" forms the acronym YUP, to which the "those who do" suffix "-ie, -ies" was added (as with technology = tech + ies = techies).
