Titera's Tidbit: Audi
In Latin, audi means "listen", as in audio, "I hear". The founder of this German car company, formed in 1899, was named August Horch. The name "Horch" means "listen" in German and is cognate with our "hark". Forced to resign from his own creation and barred from using his name, he formed a rival car company in 1909 and used the Latin form.
